Florentyna Parker wins the Ladies Italian Open
An albatross helped Florentyna Parker to her first win for four years at the Ladies Italian Open.
The 25-year-old holed a 6-iron from 152 metres at the 14th to move clear of the field and she then got up and down at the last to finish at seven under.
Her closest challenger Holly Clyburn eagled the 14th but a dropped shot at the penultimate hole left her one shot shy.
“It’s a short par 5 and I had two pars there the first two days which felt like a bogey. My mum said, ‘You need to make a birdie,’ and I holed the shot, so I said, ‘Are you happy now?’ I have some champagne left over from my birthday last week and I kept saying, ‘we need to drink it,’ and so I will!”
The victory qualifies Parker for the Ricoh Women’s British Open at her home club, Royal Birkdale in a fortnight.
