It’s time for another episode of ‘Second Hand Shorts’. You can watch the first six episodes of the series below:

Today’s short is all about the grip pressure.

A lot of people seem to struggle with this when they are hitting a shot under pressure, for example, a shot over the water or with a deep bunker in front of you. They start getting tense and end up gripping the club too tight.

The Pro at The Shack has some advice;

All I want you to think about when you are on the course or at the range working on this topic, is on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the tightest grip, have number 3 in your head.

So at setup grip the club with the feeling of a number 10, and then drop that feeling to a 3 and get used to what that feels like. Doing this relieves the tension from the forearms and relaxes the shoulders, resulting in a great golf shot time after time.

So remember;

  • Imagine a scale of 1-10 (10 the tightest grip)
  • At set up, grip to 10, and then drop the pressure to 3
  • Hit with a grip pressure of 3 and get used to that feeling
