Elite golf coach Dan Whittaker has some tips to help you cut out the dreaded thin

Tell me if this sounds like you: You have no problem hitting lovely drives down the middle of the fairway only to  but then you end up thinning your irons way over the back of the green and into the hazard. Well, let’s get rid of that…

Thinning your irons: The main points

If you’re thinning your irons the most likely cause of this will be that you’re not hitting down on the ball. You may also be trying to scoop the ball or keeping your weight backwards.

What I want you to do is bring your weight shift forward into the strike. That will allow you then to stop the scooping action and create a better strike.

Another thing I want you to do is get an alignment stick and place it behind the ball. The only thing you need to concentrate on is making contact with the ground after the alignment stick.
