A third of the Solheim Cup team will be known on Sunday night as the Ladies European Tour’s points list is finalised at the Golf Masters in the Czech Republic.

In the top four slots at present are Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera and Charley Hull and their places are assured. But Anna Nordqvist isn’t playing this week and can be overtaken in fourth position if;
a) Melissa Reid finishes 8th or higher
b) Carlota Ciganda finishes first or second

On the World Rankings’ list Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal, Ciganda and Catriona Matthew are in as things stand. That would mean, from the 2013 record-breaking team, Caroline Masson, Beatriz Recari, Karine Icher, Caroline Hedwall, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Giulia Sergas would all need one of the four picks by captain Carin Koch.

Of those Hedwall and Masson were in Germany this week as part of some preparations at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club – Reid was also there.

Otherwise Laura Davies, France’s Valentine Derrey, Pernilla Lindberg and rookies Holly Clyburn and Amy Boulden are also in the mix.

There are two tournaments remaining on the LPGA Tour before the cut-off, in Oregon in a week and then Canada in a fortnight.

The European wildcard picks are announced on Tuesday August 25 with the American team the day before.

Mark Townsend

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
