The Solheim Cup is always a date to save in your diary. Team Europe and Team USA will battle it out for the cup in the year at West Des Moines, Iowa but what is in stall for the 2019 event?

Two years ago it was announced that the site of the 2014 Ryder Cup, Gleneagles, would play host to the match-play event when it returns to European soil in two years time.

The Ladies European Tour announced that the event will be held from September 13-15, 2019.

2000 Solheim Cup controversy

It will be the first time in 19 years that the competition has been played on Scottish territory. The last time the Solheim Cup was played in Scotland it was held at Loch Lochmond golf club.

Europe came out on top and won their second Solheim Cup but the event was overshadowed with controversy from the Americans.

During the second day, Annika Sorenstam chipped in for birdie on the 13th only for the Americans to ask for a replay of the shot because Sorenstam was deemed to have played out of turn because she was one and half yards in front of everyone else.

The Americans went on to win the game 2&1 but thankfully Europe went on to win the Cup.
