Break 100: Get a grip with Holly Calvert
BUILD THE FOUNDATIONS
First things first. Always put your left hand on first because it’s your guide to sensing the alignment of the clubface, then add your right hand. We want your thumb down the middle but slightly off-centre to the right. Look at the logo on the grip and use that for a guide.
WE DON’T WANT A STRONG HAND
Now the right hand. We want your right hand at to the club and we are looking to extend the fingers and the hand round the grip so your right thumb is hiding your left thumb. We want your hands to work compatibly and together with one not overriding the other which leads to errant shots.
FINGERS EQUAL CONTROL
We are trying to grip the club with all the fingers. Some players don’t have the thumb on the grip but we always want the right thumb on the club to have more control and to help you release it. From face on you should see one and a half to two knuckles of your right hand when looking in the mirror.
