While in Orlando for the recent PGA Show, NCG visited former LET and LPGA pro Charlotta Sorenstam at her sister’s former academy at Reunion Resort to ask her how to hit the perfect draw.

A lot of people try to feel it coming on the inside, but I try to work on the fundamentals. I try to aim the club face where I want the ball to finish.

I align my body where I want the ball to start. So it’s literally a closed club face how I grip it. But of course you can adjust that based on how much draw you want to see.

The most important thing is do not look at the club face and swing after that.

You must feel where your body is and swing after the body. Just like you would in a normal swing.

Charlotta then demonstrated in front of NCG’s resident pro, James Whitaker, exactly how she would play a draw shot. Afterwards they had a look at the Trackman results…

As you can see, with the face to path being slightly closed as her club path is more in to out that helps get that draw that she wants.

So remember…

  • Swing after the body
  • Aim the club face where you want the ball to finish
  • Align your body where you want the ball to start.

Who is Charlotta Sorenstam?

Sorenstam is a Swedish professional golfer and sister of Hall of Fame golfer Annika. She was born in 1973 in Stockholm and, after a successful amateur career, turned professional in 1994. She played on the LET in 1995 and 1996.

At the end of the 1996 season Charlotta finished second at the LPGA Tour final qualifying to earn exempt status for 1997. With this exemption, she moved to the United States to play on the LPGA Tour whilst occasionally playing some European Tour events.

She won once on the LPGA Tour, at the 2000 Standard Register Ping tournament. Her best finish in Europe was second, which she achieved several times.

Sorenstam represented Europe in the Solheim Cup in 1998 and served as non-playing European captain for the European girls’ team in the Junior Solheim Cup in 2005.
