The USA win the first ever Curtis Cup contest 5 ½-3 ½ at Wentworth. Joyce Wethered was GB&I’s first team captain.
This is the 39th staging of the Curtis Cup and the third time it has been to Ireland.
This event that has been extraordinarily kind to the Americans, who’ve lifted the cup on 28 occasions. GB&I have won the competition seven times and there have been three ties (1936, 1958 and 1994).
Years between Curtis Cups because of World War Two. It wasn’t held between 1940 and 1946.
The record margin of victory. At Denver Country Club in 1982 the USA cruised to a crushing 14 ½-3½ success.
Years between American defeats. In fact, they won every single game for more than a quarter of a century between 1960 and 1986.
Games played in the Curtis Cup by the United States’ Carol Semple Thompson between 1974 and 2002. She also captained three times.
