The top prize at all our This Girl Golfs events is a three-night golf break for two at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club in Spain.

Cherie, the winner from our latest event at The Vale near Cardiff, tells us why the day was even better than she imagined…

It was the first event I’ve ever entered. I’ve played in competitions at our club but this was the first bigger event that myself and my playing partner have competed in.

I had played The Vale once before; we’re members at Thornbury near Bristol which is only about an hour away. But although I had played there before I was still a little nervous, just because if you’re used to playing at your club it’s all familiar faces or people from your area.

I’m quite a novice to golf, I’ve only been playing for five years so I’m perhaps not as knowledgeable as those who have been playing for years and years.

So I wasn’t so much nervous but I was keen not to do anything daft!

Everyone was friendly, there were some who had done it before and knew what was happening next.

The staff at the Vale were amazing, we were there the night before and they were very helpful and so were the staff in the pro shop.

The This Girl Golfs team were brilliant. The weather was fantastic. There was no negative aspect at all, everything just ran so smoothly and it was brilliant.

I’ve already been recruiting the Thornberry ladies and they are desperate to come to the next one.

Even if you didn’t a prize the day would still be such great value for money. The course is brilliant, the food was fantastic, the attention to detail was great. Nobody would go away disappointed.

I’m going to Las Colinas in October and my playing partner is coming with me. We’ll really enjoy a few days of sunshine and golf, it will be brilliant.

As it’s a golf resort we know there will be lots of other like-minded people there, so although there’s only two of us going, we know we will tend to talk to people and before we know it there will be a group of eight or ten of us. People are always so friendly at golf resorts.

My playing partner and I are both lively and we like a bit of fun as well as playing lots of golf. We’ve not particularly young but we are spirited!

Discovering the This Girl Golf events was like stumbling upon a gem. And even if the field had been bigger and we didn’t win anything we would have had an amazing day.

I don’t often win much, maybe the odd fiver from Marks & Spencer, so I don’t consider myself a lucky person and I don’t think golf is lucky, sometimes you just have a good day.

It was brilliant to win my first event. We have about 130/140 ladies at Thornbury so it’s a nice size club. We’re all prepared to make fun of each other so they are quite astonished that I won!

When I played in a competition the following week and didn’t win I just laughed and said that I had already won a holiday so I didn’t care!

It was completely amazing and I’m very, very thankful because I’ve had quite a tough year and it cheered me up no end.
