Golfers looking for easier launch and more distance should take note of the new Callaway Big Bertha OS irons and hybrids.

The brand have taken forgiveness to new levels through use of new materials and techniques to re-position weight into the areas where those with higher handicaps looking to improve need it most.

The Callaway Big Bertha OS irons and hybrids follow-on from the XR OS irons and hybrids which were launched last year but claim to offer even easier launch, more distance and more forgiveness.

In the Big Bertha OS irons there’s an all-new clubhead construction, called the Exo-Cage, which is an ultra-light yet strong.

It allows Callaway engineers to distribute more discretionary weight into strategic locations to promote more forgiveness.

Along with 360 Face Cup technology, Callaway say the result is more ball speed across the face to give you more distance on every swing.

Tungsten-Loaded Standing Wave technology in the sole lowers the centre of gravity to promote a higher launch angle for longer carry and more ball speed on hits low on the face.

Progressive centre of gravity technology sees the CG location progressively lower in each head from the highest-lofted to the lowest-lofted, promoting higher launch and long carry in the long-irons and increased control in the short-irons.

In the Big Bertha OS hybrids, easy launch and more forgiveness is achieved through a deeper body and a larger faster face.

Callaway say they have improved ball speeds right across the clubface for improved performance on mis-hits.

A larger and more flexible face gives players more area to make contact with and the added flexibility pushes the COR (energy return/trampoline effect) closer to the USGA limit, promoting faster ball speed for more distance.

Refinements to the head design include a longer heel-to-toe length that allows for a larger and more forgiving face.

The deeper body increases MOI (resistance to twisting) and stability.

Once again we see evidence of Callaway‘s research with Boeing with the same speed step crown featured on the XR16, XR Steelhead and Big Bertha Fusion ranges.

The Callaway Big Bertha OS irons and hybrids both come in senior and women’s models with slightly larger heads to make it even easier to get the ball in the air.
