China’s Shanshan Feng set a new tournament record at the Volvik Championship to record her seventh win on the LPGA Tour.

A four-under 68, her fourth sub-70 effort of the week, was good enough to give her a two-shot win over Korean pair Minjee Lee and Sung Hyun Park. Norway’s Suzann Pettersen was the best-placed European in a share of sixth.

The bronze medal winner from Rio could afford to drop shots at 16 and 18 with all the hard work done in the first 14 holes with six birdies.

Lee made a run with five birdies in six holes from the 4th and added two more coming home but Feng was unable to be caught.

“I’m really happy to have this win because I’ve had six wins on the LPGA so far but only two in the US. So I’m really happy that I’m not only playing well in Asia but also in the US and very glad that a lot of the Chinese came to actually come support me,” said Feng.

The World No 7 had so far enjoyed a mediocre start to the year with just one top 10 in five starts but with some new wedges and some swing adjustments she got herself back in the winner’s circle.

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
