The TaylorMade M2 driver helped Dustin Johnson win his first Major Championship, and now finds itself in the bags of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

With the introduction of the next generation of M1 metalwoods, TaylorMade have also been busy with the M2 and have a new and improved model for 2017.

So what exactly is new in the M2 driver..

TaylorMade engineers have successfully achieved both distance and forgiveness through a breakthrough design technique known as ‘Geocoustic’ as well as a newly-designed speed pocket which is 3 times more flexible than the previous M2 model.

What is ‘Geocoustic’? This new feature combines geometry and acoustic engineering to offer more forgiveness and a much improved sound.

This new breakthrough is the sunken sole portion of the M2 driver as the section utilises an ultra-light, thick-thin 9-1-1 titanium to free up volume whilst leaving the CG in the same place.

With freed up volume this allows TaylorMade to make the head larger on the new driver by 7%. This improvement not only helps the driver to appear more visibly forgiving, but also feel more forgiving at the same time.

The new lower density 9-1-1 body, 6-layer carbon composite crown allow for 25g of discretionary weight to be moved back and low in the sole.

With these developments the inertia of the new M2 driver has increased over the 5000 g-cm barrier without sacrificing low CG, how trajectory or aerodynamic performance.

What else is new? Well the new M2 driver comes equipped with the new ultra-light 12 position aluminium loft sleeve and the Fujikura Pro XLR8 56 (high launch) along with a new dual texture 360 performance grip for improved feel.

in addition to the standard model, there is also an offering of a higher launching, more draw-biased model called the M2 D-Type and is also 460cc.

The D-Type driver combines multiple draw-baising technologies to deliver up to 20 yards of built-in draw bias. This will help those players constantly fighting a fade/slice trajectory.

The D-Type driver is more heel weighted, has a slight offset and promotes a square face at address and a more draw-biased face at impact.

Like the new M1 metalwoods the new M2 range is available from the 27th January and is priced at £369. Available in 9.5, 10.5 and 12 degree loft options.

The new M2 Fairway and rescue

Just like the previous M2 driver, the M2 fairway woods are extremely popular among Tour Pros.

But the ultimate distance fairway has been made even more forgiving by incorporating a recessed 6-layer composite crown, a new Geocoustic driven sole design and for the first time in a TaylorMade fairway, inverted cone technology.

A longer and more flexible Speed Pocket and a lighter fluted hosel help create a lower CG, producing faster ball speeds, higher launch and low spinning shots.

Completing the M2 metalwoods family is the newly designed M2 rescue club.

The low-profile body of the M2 rescue has a tiered two-tone crown showcasing the iconic TaylorMade look.

Underneath the hood a more flexible Speed Pocket offers speed and forgiveness. This rescue club is deigned with the average golfer in mind to help them replace a long iron with higher, longer and more draw biased performance.

The M2 Fairway has a retail price of £229 and will be offered in 15, 16.5, 18, 21 and 24 degree loft options with a M2 REAX shaft.

The M2 Rescue will retail at £189 and be offered in 19, 22, 25 and 28 degree loft options with an M2 REAX shaft.
