Marathon Classic report: What happened at Highland Meadows Golf Club?

Sei Young Kim recorded an incredible 9th LPGA Tour victory with a two-shot victory over Lexi Thompson.

The South Korean carded a brilliant final round of 65 with just one bogey and this included a streak of five consecutive birdies around the turn.

At this point, the gap was five shots and the outcome was all but decided.

However, Thompson did do all she could coming down the stretch to catch the leader and Eagled the 18th hole for the second time.

The winning score was the second lowest in tournament history and comes just a week after Shanshan Feng achieved the second lowest score in relation to par in LPGA history.

Lexi spoke after her round, and wasn’t too down on her performance, with plenty of positives coming out of the week.

“This is a great tournament in general. I love coming here, and the course is always in good shape for us.

“It’s a good tune up for the team event next week and then the two majors.

“I’m very proud of my attitude this whole week. I could have faltered at the start and I was not striking the ball the way i wanted to or have been the last three days.

“But I stayed in and stayed positive.”

Marathon Classic report: Talking point

Not only does the LPGA provide top level sporting entertainment, but it also throws up moments that you just can’t help but smile at.

On the 14th hole at the Marathon Classic, there is a tradition which involves caddies racing down the fairway.

But this week, one scorer decided to change that and run up the fairway himself, which he did with absolute class… mostly.
