The weather wasn’t in our favour this year. By which we mean that, for once, it was dry and warm.

Undeterred, we got the hosepipe out and gave all of these suits a good drenching before seeing how they performed.

We conducted the test at Moor Allerton GC in Leeds, where a group of NCG readers and members of staff were doused with the hosepipe.

After the soaking, we played some holes so we could experience how they performed in
every aspect.

We were particularly interested in functionality and how easy it was to move and swing when playing full shots, but perhaps even more importantly when chipping and putting.

This is crucial as when you bend over the fit becomes crucial to avoid bunching.

THE TESTERS

Dan Murphy
Handicap: 4
It’s all about freedom of movement for me and I also want a jacket that I can wear off the course

James Savage
Handicap: 22
I like a waterproof suit that looks really smart and makes me feel like a proper golfer. I don’t mind bold colours but not if the overall look is more like a football top.

James Tompkinson
Handicap: 24
I’m not brand-conscious when it comes to waterproofs and I want a strong all-round suit. I appreciate extra features and I always find plenty of pockets useful.

Eddie Loyden
Handicap: 4
I’m not afraid to invest in a suit but I need to be confident that it’s worth paying extra for and it needs to be a jacket than I can wear when I’m not on the golf course as well.

Jay Fewtrell
Handicap: 23
I’m relatively new to the game so seeing what is on the market was a real eye-opener for me in terms of how good these suits can be and the importance of the right fit.
