North West: Golfers beat odds of 150,000,000 to one
A pair of West Lancashire golfers beat odds of 150,000,000 to one by recording two holes-in-one on the same hole in the same four ball.
Pat Molloy and Dave Walsh defied the incredible odds by both acing the 138 yard par 3 on the same day at West Lancashire last week.

Molloy teed off first with a 7 wood, with Walsh opting to use a 6 iron.
Mike Venney was stood on the 7th tee and witnessed the feat, saying: “To see one ball go in the hole was fantastic, but to see two was absolutely amazing. It was the chance of a lifetime.”
West Lancashire was founded in 1873 and plays host to R&A Open qualifying on June 22.
Another remarkable hole in one was scored at Rossendale, where 75-year-old Kevin Swain scored an ace on the 330-yard par 4 8th hole.

Mellor and Townscliffe has received £52,755 of National Lottery funding to refurbish its clubhouse.
Repairs to the access road and car park are also hoped to increase usage of the club by the local community.
The club’s president, Graham Davenport, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises and access to the clubhouse to match the quality of our course.”
Sport England’s Charles Johnston added: “The Inspired Facilities Fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country. It’s great to see Mellor and Townscliffe join the long list of successful clubs to benefit from this fund.”
Twelve-year-old smashes course record
Kendal’s Caitlin Whitehead, 12, shot 66 gross in the ladies EG medal to smash the existing ladies course record by five shots.
The five-under par round included six birdies and just one bogey.

Kendal professional Ben Waller said he believed Whitehead has the talent to progress to the top of the amateur game and beyond. He said: “At just 12 years old she has natural talent, coupled with a maturity and mental strength to succeed at the highest level.”
Caitlin plays off a handicap of four and is current Kendal Ladies Club Champion.
Rotary day raises £10,000 for cancer charity
The Rotary Club of Southport Link’s 25th Bus-Am tournament, held at The Hesketh, raised £10,000 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
The amount was achieved through the match-funding arrangement with Barclays Bank and means the event has raised over £50,000 during its 25-year history.
Charity fund-raising manager Rachel Donohoe said: “The Rotary have worked incredibly hard to raise such a substantial amount to benefit our cancer patients. It’s a huge sum and will help us to continue to provide support services for patients that would otherwise be unavailable. We can’t thank them enough.”
