Six of England’s best lady golfers will be heading to Spain at the end of February to contest the Nations Cup at the Real Club Pineda in Seville.

The players will be competing individually for the Spanish ladies’ amateur championship, but will see their scores combined for the team event.

India Clyburn of Lincolnshire, Alice Hewson of Hertfordshire and Inci Mehmet of Surrey will compete in one team. The other will be comprised of Gemma Clews of Cheshire, Sammie Giles of Cornwall and Bethan Popel of Gloucestershire.

The championship takes place from February 25 to March 1 and after two rounds of stroke play qualifying the leading 32 players will go forward to the match play.

The Nations Cup will be played on the qualifying days when each team’s best two scores will count in both rounds.

English women’s mid-amateur champion and winner of 2014 Liphook Scratch Cup

Alice Hewson, 17, Berkhamsted
Member of England’s winning team at girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals

Inci Mehmet, 18, Royal Mid Surrey
Member of winning Home Internationals team and runner-up at English women’s amateur championship

Bethan Popel, 19, Long Ashton
Home Internationals team member and helped England win Nations Cup at St Rule Trophy
