Talking points of the week

Although Brooke Henderson was leading going into the Sunday of the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA classic, it was Brittany Lincicome who successfully defended her title.

Throughout the tournament the players were tested with difficult conditions and 45mph winds, but Lincicome still birdied four of the last five holes.

She finished 12-under par, just two strokes ahead of 23-year-old Wei-Ling Hsu from Taiwan, who at times looked like she was heading for her first LPGA win.

Meanwhile, Paige Spiranac was the official starter at the Omega Desert Classic Dubai, where she ran a clinic with Rory McIlroy and Naill Horan.

She also took the time to give a talk to Dubai students about the dangers of cyberbullying.

Speaking to the UAE edition of The National she said:

“It’s such an honour to be the official starter for the men’s tournament. I just want to do a good job, be respectful and make sure I start them off well. It’s also the first time that they’ve offered the role of the starter to a female. The decision is definitely a recognition of the growing role of women in the sport, which is great because they are trying to make the game younger and more appealing, and get more people interested.”

ShanShan Feng certainly bagged the award for the loudest trousers of the week. However, her coffee-patterned ensemble may have acted as a good luck charm as she finished tied third with Amy Lang.

Meanwhile, Danielle Kang kept things sporty and stylish in a selection of her envy-inducing Adidas wardrobe.
